Super easy installation
You will need a drill, rivet pliers, mounting kit and installation manual that will guide you through the process step by step.
The positioning of ribs is individual and depends on the size of your vehicle and the layout of furniture. For L2H2 vehicle size it takes approximately 12-16 hours to complete the whole assembly (without additional modules).
All in all, with good preparation, two people are able to make the foundation of the van in a single day!
Bonding matters
Plywood ribs and crossbeams firmly connect the whole van build to the chassi. This grid-like structure allows you to securely anchor cabinets, tables, electronics, technology, bed, the kitchen framework and much more.
Plywood as a material is more than sufficient for most van conversion projects strength-wise. But in some cases (for example installing an electric lift bed) it might be necessary to customize the frame in order to increase the strength. If this is your case, we recommend doubling the ribs (not all of them, just in the affected area) and instead of using plywood crossbeams (included in the package) you can opt for 40 x 20 mm aluminium beams.
As lightweight as it gets
Gross vehicle weight rating is a concern for many builders. It plays a big role in your decision making when it comes to choosing materials for your floors, wall lining, furniture and even the appliances and equipment. Every gram counts. Therefore you might appreciate to be able to loose few kilos by lightening some of the crossbeams with a 30 mm Forstner drill bit. The beam will lose up to 40% of its weight, but it also partially loses its strength and bearing capacity, so choose this procedure only in areas with wall lining. In places with a higher load (wherever you need to anchor for example cabinets, equipment, etc.) leave the crossbeams as they are.
Fits your vehicle perfectly
The ribs are designed to perfectly copy the curvature of your van and make a nice and even surface. Each rib should be ideally 50 cm apart from the other, but what if you want to install some windows for example? Well, simply cut out those parts of the ribs that are in the way!
Safe and secure plumbing & electricity
Relief holes in the ribs serve one more purpose. You can safely run all the wires and hoses right through them.
Attaching furniture has never been easier
Overhead cabinets screwed directly to the chassi is a common way of anchoring. But it is not the best way (and definitely not very safe).
The system of vertical ribs and horizontal beams distributes all forces over its entire surface, which is very important when it comes to attaching furniture and equipment. You are also not limited by the number of metal beams in your van and you can simply place the piece of furniture exactly as you like. Then you can use screws or tee nuts but do not forget to use a sealant adhesive first, to achieve a really strong connection. This also prevents any squeaks and rattles during driving.
Another huge advantage of this grid-like structure is the ability to line walls with a very thin and light material, without any unpleasant twisting or sagging. You can use plywood, tongue and groove cladding, honeycomb panels or sandwich panels. For a really lightweight solution you can use just leatherette or other fabric.
Extension modules
Do not forget to have a look at our extension modules that are compatible with the wall framework and will make your life easier. We currently have plywood floors, window frameworks, ceiling frameworks and more is coming soon.
